ONLINE COURSE
Journey Through the Book of Proverbs | ONLINE Study & Discussion
8 Weeks | ONLINE | Saturday 12th July onwards | 2.30pm (1.25hrs)
King Solomon, who reigned over Israel between 970 and 931 BC, was the main contributor to the book of Proverbs. He was responsible for the long section on wisdom (chapters 1-9) and the pithy proverbs in 10:1-22:16. The proverbs in 22:17-24:34 were adapted from wise men outside Israel. This section is followed by more of Solomon’s proverbs (25:1-29:27).
Proverbs’ key theme, that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (1:7; 9:10), reminds us that true knowledge and wisdom can be found only in a relationship of reverence and respect for God. To be truly wise is to revere God and to live according to His Word.
Structure of Proverbs:
- 1:1-7 Trials, blessings, temptation, religion and wisdom
- 1:8-9:18 How faith integrates with action
- 10:1-22:16 How speech and wise living determine the course of our lives
- 22:17-24:34 A call to be obedient to God, and to turn away from the world
- 25:1-29:27 Dangers of greed and importance of patience and prayer
- 30:1-33 Sayings of Agur
- 31:1-9 Sayings of King Lemuel
- 31:10-31 The woman of wisdom
This is an 8-weeks course based on the Journey through Proverbs by David Cook. It will prove to be an interesting course with self-reading daily devotional and weekly discussion on it.
