Throughout Scripture, God’s care and provision for the marginalized is a recurring theme. In Deuteronomy 10:18 (NLT), God proclaims His love and justice for the orphans, widows, and foreigners – “He executes justice for the orphan and the widow, and shows love for the sojourner by giving him food and clothing.” Similarly, in James 1:27, the caring for orphans and widows is described as a reflection of a pure and genuine religion. As believers, we are called to express our faith through meaningful action.
This conviction gave birth to HOPE Community Outreach (HCO)
– a ministry established to actively engage with and serve the marginalized community.
Our Dedicated tEAM
All activities carried out by Hope Community Outreach are run by a group of passionate people, from different walks of life, who have come together voluntarily to serve the community through these initiatives. HCO is wholly under the purview of Pertubuhan Kebajikan Destiny Metro (PKDM), an NGO registered with the Registrar of Societies, Malaysia.
Our Programs
HCO currently operates 5 Impactful Programs to address various community needs:
- Food Bank: Providing essential food supplies to families in need.
- Vegetable & Fruit Distribution: Supplying fresh vegetables and fruits to families in need.
- School Meal: Supporting students by offering nutritious meals.
- Community Education: Fostering a love for learning among young children.
- Blood Donation: Saving lives through regular blood donation drives.
From humble beginnings of supporting 8 families-in-need over a decade ago, the Food Bank Program has since grown to supporting over 80 families – providing monthly assistance through essential food supplies and vouchers. This program prioritizes B40 families with special attention given to widows, single parents, and the elderly. With our mission of transforming communities, the Food Bank Program goes beyond food assistance. We are actively supporting families in other areas, such as:
- Employment Opportunities
- Application for College or Vocational Training
- Access to Welfare Assistance
- School Essentials (uniforms, stationery, books)
- Baby Essentials
The Food Bank Program also organizes an Education & Health Carnival – connecting families, encouraging learning, and raising health awareness
Initiated 8 years ago, the Vegetable Distribution Program augments the Food Bank Program by addressing the need for fresh foods. Every month, fruits and vegetables are collected from the Selayang Wholesale Market and distributed to residents in low-cost flats. While the residents collect their fruits and vegetables, interactive game activities are also held for the children in these communities. These activities foster creative thinking, contributing to the cognitive and educational development of the younger generation.
The School Meal Program was launched on 10 March 2025 and is currently operating in 1 school in Kuala Lumpur. This program now serves 30 students from low-income families by providing them with daily meals containing the essential nutrients for good physical growth and academic performance. Each meal costs RM8 and comes with a balanced combination of carbohydrates, protein, vegetables, and fruits. The School Meal Program has seen early success thanks to the commitment of teachers and its positive impact has resulted in requests to extend this support to more students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
A Community Education Program was initiated with the aim of transforming the economic outlook of underprivileged communities via education. By equipping young minds with knowledge and skills, they will be able to build a better future and break the cycle of poverty. This program currently serves the primary school level children in the Putri Laksamana flats of Batu Caves.
90-minute classes are held weekly, focusing on English with plans to include Bahasa Malaysia and Mathematics. The classes aim to make education enjoyable and accessible by using creative and engaging teaching methods, which will complement formal school teaching. PKDM is dedicated to unlocking the potential of underprivileged youths in the community and empowering them to create a lasting impact in their families.
The Blood Donation Program aims to support the National Blood Bank by increasing the national blood stock levels and raising awareness on voluntary donation. An annual blood donation event is organized with measures to ensure safety, education, and appreciation for donors – including a health screening prior to donation to confirm eligibility and to safeguard the blood supply. Past donation events have succeeded in collecting substantial blood units, benefiting hospitals and patients in need. The Blood Donation Program is planning to continue the annual blood donation event, with the goal of increasing donor participation and saving even more lives in the future.
